Braekfast to go? Braekfast to go!

The Name

First of all: yes, I am aware that it's written brAEkfast and not brEAkfast. But if you know that my family name is Braeken then it might explain a lot. And the 'Braek' in Braeken is pronounced as the 'Braek' in breakfast. So not as Bracken. AS now you know how to pronounce it :)

just thought adding 'to go' at the end would make it sound better. In general, I was looking for a more interesting name for my website than "Richard Braeken's place on the web" and this was the least lousiest I could come up with ;)

And that's the story I am sticking to. Unless of course you can come up with a better one...

The History

It was the 90s and everybody had a home page. I launched mine on April 1, 1998. At time I was living in Toronto and I started it as a way to stay in touch with family and friends back in the Netherlands. 'Blogging' was a term that didn't exist at that time.

In 2000 I bought 'braeken.com' but keying this URL in your browser would only show you a link to the web site. It took me 3 more years before I bought some web hosting space. My web site was not earth shattering so why spend the money on it? But 5$ per month was more than reasonable. Besides that I had plans to move and that meant a new home, read address, for the website. The 4th address change in 5 years. I got tired of this.

Having a hosting service gave me access to more features and since the layout had not really changed since the original launch it was time for a redesign. Since "Richard Braeken's place on the web" was not the fanciest name, it got replaced with "Braekfast to go" and that's where we are now.

The Purpose

The purpose of the web site hasn't changed. It still remains a way to let friends and family know what I have been up to. Whether they live on the east or the west side of the Atlantic. Nothing more and nothing less.

This web site is anything but the best thing since sliced bread...
